Winton Square

Winton Square is a grade 2 listed building designed by Henry Arthur Hunt in the mid-19th Century. It is believed to have originally been 2 dwellings associated with the railway and it sits directly opposite Stoke-on-Trent Train Station. More recently, it had been used as offices for Staffordshire University, prior to being purchased by our client.

Tarpey Woodfine Architects were asked to convert the building into student accommodation. Given that the original use was residential, we were able to refurbish the building with minimal changes to the structural fabric and retain the character of the original rooms.

Services were carefully integrated – for instance, Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) was installed by using the existing chimneys as vertical ventilation risers which helped to improve the air quality, given the busy city centre location.

The project provides high-quality accommodation with attractive and spacious rooms in an extremely convenient location. It has been fully let since and proved to be very popular with students.
