The Tin Shed

Our client purchased an agricultural shed set in 6 acres of land at Hatherton near Nantwich. They approached Tarpey Woodfine Architects to convert the steel framed building into a contemporary family dwelling.

The project is clad in zinc with spaces arranged around a central double-height atrium which is the hub of the house and contains a large open plan kitchen, dining, and lounge areas. The principal habitable rooms face open countryside to the south and benefit from passive solar gain. The property has two air source heat pumps which are powered via fifty ground-mounted solar panels which help the property to achieve nett zero carbon emissions. A substantial lake also provides rainwater attenuation as well as an attractive wildlife habitat.
