Nantwich Farm House

A classic 19th-century farmhouse extended in a contemporary style. The scheme provided living, dining and kitchen accommodation along with a main bedroom suite on the first floor.

The simple block form of the original building contrasts with a lightweight composition of wall and roof planes. Small window openings contrast with large expanses of glazing, exploiting southerly views. Existing cellular rooms contrast with a new free-flowing open-plan living area.

Whilst the two phases of building, separated by over a century, are distinct, they are united by the use of a rich variegated red brick. By using this material internally and externally, warmth and texture are added to the otherwise minimalist design of the new build.

A new ancillary building has also been constructed to contain garages and storage, and the choice of a low-pitch metal roof relates this structure to the local agricultural vernacular.
