Our client owned a large farmhouse on a 4 acre site but wanted to downsize with minimum disruption. They approached Tarpey Woodfine Architects to design and manage the construction of a new low-carbon dwelling within the grounds of their existing home which was subsequently sold.
The dwelling has been built to high levels of thermal insulation and is heated via a ground source heat pump. There are also 4kw of PV solar panels on the south-facing roof and a borehole which brings fresh water up from an natural underground reservoir (aquifer). The retained gardens were designed by Land Lizard who worked in close collaboration with Tarpey Woodfine Architects to ensure that the dwelling and landscaping complimented each other. The dwelling is approximately 180 sqm with 4 bedrooms.
