The proposal was to obtain planning approval for the change of use from a car showroom to a mixed use residential and retail scheme. Ground floor units would provide a retail arcade space with residential units over. The residential units would be spread over 4 and 5 stories, made up of 1 bed and 2 bed apartments around a central open courtyard. The courtyard was designed to be comprehensively soft landscaped with trees, shrubbery and planting that would soften the contrasting hard lines of the building and various bridges, walkways, balconies and paths within the courtyard.
The scheme was developed from feasibility through to planning stages, although a planning application was never submitted. Newcastle-under-Lyme’s new Jubilee 2 sports facility now occupies the site.
