Willowmead

Location: Butterton, Staffordshire
Completion: 2007

Willowmead was a tired 1950s dwelling set in large gardens with spectacular views, situated within the greenbelt. Our client asked us to extend and refurbish the house both internally and externally to create an uplifting and modern environment for the family.

The ground floor was developed into a more open plan layout with stronger links to the surrounding gardens. A mix of limestone, oak, stainless steel and glass finishes and fittings are used throughout the building.

The insulation values and air-tightness in the walls and roof were radically improved with high-grade insulation and mezzanine rooms were opened up within the vaulted roof space. Solar thermal panels were also introduced on the south facing roof slope and a series of roof windows and enlarged glazed screens were introduced to take further advantage of the context.
