In 1997, the practice was appointed to design shell works for a hotel and public house development adjacent to the A50 in Stoke-on-Trent. The building sits on green-field land with a number of planning constraints requiring the building to be low-impact, whilst the client wanted the building to be highly visible to attract customers.
The building uses a mix of brickwork, render and glazing to achieve these goals and utilises a timber frame for speed of construction in order to meet the very tight programme constraints.
